Who runs it
Slop TV is an experiment by Adam Pickering, a product designer at Automattic. It is hosted on Spacefast, Automattic's publishing platform. Questions go through the contact page.
One cookie
When the page first talks to the channel it sets one cookie, sst_v. It holds a random ID, the time it was made and a signature, so it can't be forged. It lasts a year, and scripts on the page can't read it. It gives you a generated on-air name like sleepy-ocelot, counts your votes and hearts once, and keeps the request limits fair. It is not used for advertising, and the channel sets no other cookie. The host's network may set a short-lived cookie of its own while it checks that a visitor is not a bot.
What the channel stores
- Your requests
-
The words you type, with a salted hash of your cookie's ID and a salted hash of your network. The network hash is built from signals the host passes along: your network provider's number, your approximate city, your browser's user agent and a fingerprint of its secure connection. Only the hash is stored, never the signals. Both hashes are keyed with a secret, so they can't be turned back into who you are. They keep one person from flooding the queue.
On air, and everywhere public, a request appears only as the standards desk's title, the clip it became and your generated name. The words you typed are seen by the operator in the control room.
A clip that aired stays in rotation and in the Gallery for good, unless it is pulled. Your cookie's hash is removed from a request after 30 days.
- Votes and hearts
Stored against the hash of your cookie's ID so each counts once. Deleted after 30 days.
- Reactions
The four emoji buttons. Stored against the same hash, deleted after a day. Clips keep running totals with no one attached.
- Who is watching
A row per viewer, keyed by the same hash, with the last time you loaded the channel. It powers the "watching" count and is deleted after an hour.
- Phone calls and texts
-
When you call or text +1 412-557-4880, your number is hashed the moment it arrives. The number itself is never stored, logged or shown. The hash is your identity on the request line, the same way the cookie is on the web. What you asked for is stored like a typed request, and the operator can read it.
- On your device
The page keeps a few things in your browser's storage: the IDs of your own requests, which ones you voted on, which have aired, and whether you asked to be told. The IDs of your requests are sent back to the channel to ask how they are doing. The rest stays on your device. Clearing your browser's site data removes all of it, and your cookie with it.
- Logs
-
Spacefast keeps standard request logs for the site and counts views and daily visitors, under Automattic's own policies. The channel's own log lines leave out what you typed and phone numbers.
Who else sees what
- The standards desk
-
A language model reads every request to check it and write the brief. The text of your request goes to Anthropic's API, or through fal.ai's model router to the model it picks. Your cookie, network hash and phone number never do.
- fal.ai
fal.ai renders the clips. It receives the desk's brief, not your words, and nothing about you. The videos are served from fal's servers, so your browser connects to fal.ai to play them.
- Google Fonts
Shared clip pages load typefaces from Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google when one opens. The rest of the site serves its own fonts.
- Telnyx
Runs the phone line and the texts, as above.
- Links out
Links to Spacefast, X and YouTube take you to those sites, under their own policies. Nothing from them loads until you click.
No analytics service, no advertising network and no tracking pixel runs on this site. Nothing is sold.
